Whoooo! So you found out your pregnant and you’re so excited that you’ll be changing your life for the better in nine short months! One of the first things that may pop into your head are maternity photos!
So when should you start planning your session? How should you go about it? How do you find a photographer? What do you wear? Let me help :)
I’d suggest using your first trimester as a time to connect with your family and your growing baby bump. Take some you time to nest, plan, and grow. The end of your first trimester is a great time to finally start searching for who you might want as your photographer. Before you start your search, take some time to consider what you want your photo session to look like. Do you want it in a studio or outdoors? Do you want to find your own outfit or do you want to find a photographer with a client closet? Do you want a form fitting look or something long a flowy? Once you know the esthetic you’re going for, it’s time to hop on good ol Google and type in exactly what you have in mind. Maybe try “outdoor maternity mountain photographer” or “studio maternity photographer near me”.
The next step is to think about the long term…some photographers offer bundle sessions for maternity and newborn. Some offer Maternity and in-home lifestyle. It never hurts to ask the photographer when you reach out. Once you find your top few photographers, send them a message and describe what you’re looking for in your session. The more detail the better :)
So when do I schedule? I’d suggest anywhere between 28 and 36 weeks. This is when your baby has reached full gestation and you’ll be glowing and showing without being too uncomfortable.
What do I wear? It’s totally up to you and the vibe you’re going for. I love outfits with movement in Colorado so I would suggest renting or buying a maternity gown. They have some pretty great ones on Amazon, but if you really want a wow factor, look into a rental company like Reclamation (wearereclamation.com) (their dresses are STUNING)
I can also save you some steps and say just hire me :) I help with the whole process
